BMW's "The Hire"

Random thing I stumbled upon youtube. A series of web-based short films showcasing BMW vehicles produced about 10 years ago. I figured they would just be extended commercials. I was taken aback, however, when i found them to be much more than that.
Staring Clive Owen, and guesting the likes of Gary Oldman, Forest Whitaker, Marilyn Manson. Each featuring a different director (Tony Scott, Ang Lee, John Woo). a la Masters of Horror, this would be Masters of Action. And it really is. I enjoyed every single one of them. They all differed quite a bit in style, Some are funny. Some are tense. Others are more stylized. Yet they all have a sense of poignancy. In just a few short minutes, they show you what the action genre truly has the potential to be.
The product placement can be slightly distracting, but if you can get beyond that i think it proves to be a logical way to help finance expensive movies in a not altogether tasteless way. I think it also gives hope to the future of short films, where there is a different range of opportunities or options for expression as opposed to the feature. There's some wonderful stuff out there.

You can find them all on youtube, just search 'the hire'

The Hostage, or Powder Keg were my favorites, also Beat the Devil had a bizarrely fun flavor, so you could start with one of those or watch them in order or whatever :)
