--- Adorable hipster director Cary Fukunaga will make that sci-fi movie Spaceless next, which was a rumor a few weeks back. Two movies down - Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre - ad I'll follow the dude anywhere.--- Thrones Keepers - Some casting news for A Game of Thrones: they've cast Theon Greyjoy's sister Asha (although she can't be named Asha in the TV series because of that whore character Osha they invented for the show, so now she's called Yara, because none of us need any more complications when it comes to this show) and Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a kingly dude that Dany deals with. I'm not familiar with either actors at first glance, but the show's shown itself pretty dang good at picking the right actors so far.
--- Recent Piranha remaker Alexandre Aja might remake Pet Semetary. I find myself with very little to say about that. Huh.
--- After Zach Snyder makes his Superman movie with Henry "swoon" Cavill, he's lining up a movie called The Last Photograph which sounds more serious than what we're used to from him - it's set in "war-torn Afghanistan" and:"At last report Christian Bale is attached to play a war correspondent who is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans. Sean Penn would play a retired ex-special ops soldier determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped and the journalist agrees to travel the rough terrain to find them with him in exchange for the story."
--- Ben Foster will be playing John Gotti Jr. in that Gotti movie with John Travolta; we worried last week when Dominic Cooper was rumored up for the role, and now we're worried for Ben. Mitts off, Travolta!
--- Diablo Cody, who seems to be inexplicably-to-me hated these days more than she's liked, appears to be drawn to birds of a feather since she's apparently offered the co-lead in her directorial debut (previous post) to Russell Brand. These are both people I am always being forced to argue in favor of! This movie will drive me to knife-wielding!
--- Have you seen the poster for Drive yet? It's Goslinglicious! (via)--- We just rambled a little bit about Miranda July earlier, and here's more - she talked to io9 about the science-fictional way time works in her new movie The Future.
--- And finally, here's the first clip from Todd Solondz's new movie Dark Horse. I haven't watched it yet and I might not watch it in order to keep myself pure - please please please let this movie play at the New York Film Festival this Fall! - but have at it if you will.

Hey remember that time a couple of weeks back where I sloppily wiped Mia Wasikoska out of a picture because I wanted to see Jane Eyre director Cary Fukunaga and Jane Eyre star Michael Fassbender standing next to each other and I couldn't find any pictures of them without her in the middle? Patience, my pretties - Fassinating Fassbender just posted several pics of the two good-lookers all up in each other's grills - or you know within reach of each other's grills - for a screening of the film at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
Of import: check out Fassy's buzzed head!
My fingertips are having phantom sensations of running themselves against the grain of that fuzz and I just might pass out from it.

No offense to Mia Wasikowska who I thought was wonderful in Jane Eyre, but the fact that she was smooshed between Michael Fassbender and director Cary Fukunaga in every red carpet picture for that movie that I looked up was too much to bear, so I had to sloppily photo-shop her out. I needs my mens close! The Playlist has word on what Fukunaga, who's batting a big two-for-two with Eyre and Sin Nombre, might take on next and unsurprisingly he seems to want to keep up his rep for jumping into seemingly dissimilar genres:
"A reader recently tipped us to a tweet from May by screenwriter Jeff Vintar (”I, Robot,” the still unproduced script of “Y: The Last Man”) which said, “More good news as Cary Fukunaga is in talks to direct my script SPACELESS for producer Gore Verbinski and Universal-.” We did some digging and the project seems to be have been moving along quietly under the radar, and sources close to the project tell us that Fukunaga is indeed in talks for the film. It’s still early days and apparently no deal has been made in the two months since that tweet, but Fukunaga is definitely still eyeing the film.If he takes it on, “Spaceless” will definitely serve as another big shift from Fukunaga. The high concept flick centers on a top assassin hunting a high-profile target in space who must figure out how much of his reality is an illusion and what really matters in life before he can complete the job. Certainly sound ambitious, and with a major studio and tentpole filmmaker like Verbinksi behind the project, it could potentially be Fukunaga’s jump to mainstream filmmaking."
If this is Fukunaga's next project, I have an idea of who he could get to star in it! Here are a couple of clues: They have worked together before, they are pictured together at the top of this post, and his name is Michael Fassbender. Can ya guess? (pic via)

July 1st marks the halfway point of the year, and so I figured I'd do what I usually do and take a quick look back at the five movies I've enjoyed the most so far this year. Looking at the movies that open between now and then that I'm most curious about all there seems to be is Super 8 and Green Lantern - it that really it for June? - and I don't foresee either of those topping any of these at this point. (Prove me wrong, JJ Abrams!) There are a few duking it out, I could want something else in five minutes, but let's just roll with this.
Certified Copy (dir. Abbas Kiarostami) - Since seeing it back in March there kind of hasn't been a day that's passed where I haven't wanted to watch Certified Copy again. What baffles me looking back is I never wrote a proper review! I wrote a post telling y'all to remind me to write a review, and obviously you all failed me. Your fault! Anyway now I have a reason to watch it ASAP so I can write up some properish thoughts. There are visuals from this movie that accost me all the time. A slipping bra-strap or a boy following his mother or a sad bride.
Hanna (dir. Joe Wright) - my review - Okay okay so I've said enough about Eric Bana's wet longjohns at this point in the year, probably. There are other things! Wonderful things. Joe Wright making an action movie sort of feels like what would happen if one of those giant-headed bug-eyed aliens beamed down into your living-room and you told it to go and make you a peanut butter sandwich. This is that alien's peanut-butter sandwich. Strange and stranger.
13 Assassins (dir. Takashi Miike) - my review - I'm so glad to have another movie from Takashi to love - he makes more than it's possible to keep up with from this side of the world and the few that have trickled over have seemed more like emblems of his lack of concentration than, you know, coherent films. Not so with 13 Assassins, which is an astonishingly old-fashioned slow-burn to madness for the maestro of mayhem..
Jane Eyre (dir. Cary Fukunaga) - my review - It's all there in that scene in front of the fireplace with Rochester and Jane sizing each other up - Mia and Fassy scouring each other's faces and dragging us along for the ride.
Insidious (dir. James Wan) - my review - Lawd knows I have plenty of issues with plenty of Insidious, but at the same time I had such a hoot jumping out of my seat that I'm willing to overlook a lot of silliness. It packs enough bang for your buck. Good old fashioned spook-sanctioned fun.So what've been your favorite movies of 2011 so far?

Has Michelle Williams snagged another hot hipster? She's been seen in public with the sexy Jane Eyre director, beaming like he just proved to her the first three letters of his name is no joke. Damn her! Spike Jonze, Heath Ledger, and now the man who gave the phrase "horse hung Michael Fassbender" new meaning. What a life.
