--- Adorable hipster director Cary Fukunaga will make that sci-fi movie Spaceless next, which was a rumor a few weeks back. Two movies down - Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre - ad I'll follow the dude anywhere.--- Thrones Keepers - Some casting news for A Game of Thrones: they've cast Theon Greyjoy's sister Asha (although she can't be named Asha in the TV series because of that whore character Osha they invented for the show, so now she's called Yara, because none of us need any more complications when it comes to this show) and Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a kingly dude that Dany deals with. I'm not familiar with either actors at first glance, but the show's shown itself pretty dang good at picking the right actors so far.
--- Recent Piranha remaker Alexandre Aja might remake Pet Semetary. I find myself with very little to say about that. Huh.
--- After Zach Snyder makes his Superman movie with Henry "swoon" Cavill, he's lining up a movie called The Last Photograph which sounds more serious than what we're used to from him - it's set in "war-torn Afghanistan" and:"At last report Christian Bale is attached to play a war correspondent who is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans. Sean Penn would play a retired ex-special ops soldier determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped and the journalist agrees to travel the rough terrain to find them with him in exchange for the story."
--- Ben Foster will be playing John Gotti Jr. in that Gotti movie with John Travolta; we worried last week when Dominic Cooper was rumored up for the role, and now we're worried for Ben. Mitts off, Travolta!
--- Diablo Cody, who seems to be inexplicably-to-me hated these days more than she's liked, appears to be drawn to birds of a feather since she's apparently offered the co-lead in her directorial debut (previous post) to Russell Brand. These are both people I am always being forced to argue in favor of! This movie will drive me to knife-wielding!
--- Have you seen the poster for Drive yet? It's Goslinglicious! (via)--- We just rambled a little bit about Miranda July earlier, and here's more - she talked to io9 about the science-fictional way time works in her new movie The Future.
--- And finally, here's the first clip from Todd Solondz's new movie Dark Horse. I haven't watched it yet and I might not watch it in order to keep myself pure - please please please let this movie play at the New York Film Festival this Fall! - but have at it if you will.

--- Ash Rises - Bruce Campbell's been confirmed to cameo or something in the Evil Dead remake or reboot or reimagining or whatever. That is a good thing. Very. BD has a couple quotes from the director Federico Alvarez that also attempt to head everyone's pre-panic off. Alongside Diablo Cody working on the script, these are all good signs for a project I never wanted to see happen, and I've gotta admit my abhorrence has leapt right past curiosity into I will most likely see this thing.--- Cool Chick Alert - Speaking of horror movie cameos involving old horror movie properties stretching their limbs here well into the new millenium, Marilyn effin' Burns has a role of some sort in the latest Texas Chainsaw movie. Marilyn Burns! That's Sally Hardesty aka the final girl of Tobe Hooper's original film for all you no-nothings.
--- Tree Mama - Jessica Chastain, who looked lovely standing there while the movie whispered at her in Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, is maybe going to star in a Guillermo Del Toro-produced horror flick called Mama. I've never heard of the original short film, but the same director's extending that to feature length. Twitch says the original is fantastic, so I must watch it.--- Twas Beauty - Speaking of Guillermo Del Toro-produced horror movies, he's attached himself to a new version of Beauty and the Beast that is set to star the lovely Emma Watson. What, Beastly wasn't enough for him? Anyway I didn't even realize it until he came in he bathroom and gave me a thumbs up but Guillermo Del Toro apparently executive produced my bowel movement this morning, too.
--- Burning Hunger - I could just post the fiery motion poster for The Hunger Games movie, but I'd rather link to Nat's annoyed yelps at it at The Film Experience because they're amusing.--- Oh Boy Wizard - Curious about what got left on the cutting room floor or what they never shot in the latest and last Harry Potter film? io9 got the word from director David Yates himself. It's been so long since I read the book I turned to the boyfriend after the film and was all, "I'd completely forgotten that Snape and McGonagall duel briefly!" Turns out they didn't, and that scene was added to the film. My brains, useless.
--- And finally, there's the new poster for 30 Minutes or Less, the bank-robbery comedy starring Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride, plus those other two I am too lazy to write all their names out this morning even though this sentence is taking so much longer god make me stop. How have I not mentioned this movie before, is my point? It's from the director of the spotty but fun Zombieland. Of course you know all this because it's written in gigantic letters there on the poster. Anyway word's good on this movie? It's out August 12th..

I know that this news broke last night but I had things to do so I couldn't post about it until now, a full 12 hours later, and everybody's already forgotten everything 12 hours later, I think I might have lived a thousand lives since then. A thousand! But here we are, turning back time... if I could find a way, I'd take back those words... et cetera. God I need some caffeine in me, the nonsense-ometer is off the charts this morning. Anyway! This!
"Diablo Cody Is Rewriting the Evil Dead RemakeThe long-awaited remake of The Evil Dead is finally happening, and it's got some intriguing talents attached. Ghost House Pictures announced today that up-and-coming director Fede Alvarez so impressed Sam Raimi with his recent short Panic Attack! that Raimi gave him the go-ahead to remake his 1981 low-budget horror classic; what's more, Diablo Cody is currently working on the rewrite, suggesting that Alvarez's version might incorporate some of the humor that Raimi tapped into in later installments Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness."
This might be the awesomest news of all time. Now all they have to do is hire Dominic Cooper to play twins that shower together and this will officially be the greatest awesomest news of all time. Seriously though - Diablo? If you're there, ear to the ether, hear me: Find a way for Bruce Campbell to be in this. I know you can do it!

I know that a lot of people dislike Diablo Cody. They find her writing overly mannered and her real-life persona grating. Well, a lot of people are stupid wrong filthy beasts that I hate too, so it all falls out in the end. I'm super excited to hear this news anyway, via Variety:
"Diablo Cody is getting behind the camera for the first time, helming "Lamb of God" for Mandate from a script she wrote.... Laffer will follow the story of a young religious woman who loses her faith after a plane crash and decides to go to Las Vegas to live the life of a sinner but finds her way back to her faith."
God, the word "laffer" makes me want to scratch my eyes out. Anyway! Cody also offered up some more info on her Tumblr once the announcement was made, including this bit which only underlines why I like her so very much:
"I know the new thing online is for everyone to be really mumbly and self-deprecating. If you don’t pretend like you hate yourself and your life, everyone thinks you’re a terrible asshole. But I’m going to take a risk right now and put this out there:1. I am pleased with this new opportunity.2. It feels good."
Congratulations, lady!
