--- Adorable hipster director Cary Fukunaga will make that sci-fi movie Spaceless next, which was a rumor a few weeks back. Two movies down - Sin Nombre and Jane Eyre - ad I'll follow the dude anywhere.--- Thrones Keepers - Some casting news for A Game of Thrones: they've cast Theon Greyjoy's sister Asha (although she can't be named Asha in the TV series because of that whore character Osha they invented for the show, so now she's called Yara, because none of us need any more complications when it comes to this show) and Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a kingly dude that Dany deals with. I'm not familiar with either actors at first glance, but the show's shown itself pretty dang good at picking the right actors so far.
--- Recent Piranha remaker Alexandre Aja might remake Pet Semetary. I find myself with very little to say about that. Huh.
--- After Zach Snyder makes his Superman movie with Henry "swoon" Cavill, he's lining up a movie called The Last Photograph which sounds more serious than what we're used to from him - it's set in "war-torn Afghanistan" and:"At last report Christian Bale is attached to play a war correspondent who is the only survivor of an attack on a group of Americans. Sean Penn would play a retired ex-special ops soldier determined to free a family member who has been kidnapped and the journalist agrees to travel the rough terrain to find them with him in exchange for the story."
--- Ben Foster will be playing John Gotti Jr. in that Gotti movie with John Travolta; we worried last week when Dominic Cooper was rumored up for the role, and now we're worried for Ben. Mitts off, Travolta!
--- Diablo Cody, who seems to be inexplicably-to-me hated these days more than she's liked, appears to be drawn to birds of a feather since she's apparently offered the co-lead in her directorial debut (previous post) to Russell Brand. These are both people I am always being forced to argue in favor of! This movie will drive me to knife-wielding!

--- And finally, here's the first clip from Todd Solondz's new movie Dark Horse. I haven't watched it yet and I might not watch it in order to keep myself pure - please please please let this movie play at the New York Film Festival this Fall! - but have at it if you will.

--- Space Snaps - Some brave nerd snapped pictures of the footage they showed of Ridley Scott's Prometheus at Comic Con and those have made their way online, for now. You can see them at Dread Central, for now. There's Michael Fassbender to the left staring intently at a tiny thing, and there are equally grainy looks at Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in their costumes and lots of moody Alien looking sets, if you so desire. Gotta say I got a thrill seeing that moody world restaged, even if I don't have a whole lto of faith in Ridley Scott anymore. Great cast, at least.
--- Wiig's Boy Toy - Since I don't watch Glee I haven't had a reason to post any pictures of Glee star Darren Criss - and since I don't watch Glee I've never seen him act, ever - but here he is signing on to co-star in that Kristen Wiig dark comedy called Imogene that we spoke of a few weeks back so hello excuse. He's playing Kristen's love interest! Ha that is awesome. Cradle robber! Also at that same link is word that Annette Bening is playing Wiig's mother in the movie.
--- Havoc Back - Lucas Till, who was a bit block-of-woodish in X-Men Muppet Babies 0but still looked good in his sleeveless sweatshirt, is the latest name added to the cast of Park Chan-wook's English language debut called Stoker. Just the other day Jackie Weaver joined the cast that already included Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode.
--- Emo Bug - ComingSoon has an ultra his-res set of those pictures of Andrew Garfield & Co. in The Amazing Spider-Man that we've been looking at for a few weeks now. But no butt shot! That's the one want the hi-res of, dang it! Although we haven't seen that one there without the EW cover type all over it so that's welcome too.--- Bane On Bat - Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is filming outside a lot so we're getting lots of pictures from the set, including lots of Tom Hardy in his Bane costume. Weird that we've seen no Anne Hathaway, isn't it? See some here and more here. This one's my favorite:

I have just this second decided that Todd Haynes, director of Safe and Velvet Goldmine and Far From Heaven, is an overrated hack. A hack! A nogoodnik! I was always mildly annoyed that the sex scene between Ewan McGregor and Christian Bale in Goldmine was basically nonexistent, but now that I've heard Ewan McGregor talk about the filming of it I'm positively inflamed!
"I did have a sex scene with Christian Bale, which I did to the best of my ability. C'mon, it was great! I was playing an Iggy Pop-type rock star and we have a shag on top of a rooftop in Kings Cross but they wanted to shoot it from another rooftop. We heard, ‘Action!' so we started to slowly [go at it]. Then it went on and on-we were really going at it…with a reach-around. [Laughs]. Then I thought, I would have cum by now so I went round to Christian's ear and went, ‘I think I would have cum by now. I'm going to have a look.' I looked over and they were packing up the cameras! I think they thought it was a sensitive thing, they should just leave it to us."

Didja hear how Darren Aronfosky wants Christian Bale to play Noah in his Giant Ass Ark movie? Apparently that's the word on the street. I haven't written much about the project yet so I went ahead and threw a few queries out unto the world in the form of a post at The Film Experience this afternoon. Go ye forth and whatever.

--- Dark Tidings - Via STYD there's the hi-res version of the poster for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. Why no giant floating Katie Holmes head? Or at least giant floating Guy Pearce ass?--- My Magneto - I'm trying to decide if I'm going to see X-Men Muppet Babies tonight or tomorrow morning. My excitement for it begs for the closest time-slot manageable, while my aversion to Friday night movie crowds whispers otherwise into my ear. Either way, it will be mine, Fassy and all, within the next 24 hours! Whoop! That film and the next couple weeks of Summer releases are covered in Joe's most recent Movie Preview post over at Low Resolution. Check it.
--- How Hungry Are You - Somehow I never got around to mentioning this, but apparently Lionsgate is considering turning the three-book Hunger Games series into four films, should the first movie be a success. Hrm. Lord knows I love 'em, but I'm not entirely sold on this. But I'm easily won over. (Make the third film nothing but Finnick in his skimpy aquatic costume posing for two hours, and I'm yours!) (pic via)--- And speaking of Katniss & Co, PopWrap got to chat up Jennifer Lawrence today - it's mostly about her role as Mystique in X-Men Muppet Babies as well as her recently discovered talk-show agility - a girl who can charm Letterman so has a big future in the biz - but there's some Hunger-flavored manna towards the end.
--- More Than Meets The Eye - PopWrap dissects some recent comments by Shia Labeouf on the departure of Megan Fox from the Transformers series, and I feel like I'm the last person standing defending Megan Fox - even Mickey Rourke has jumped ship, as if he's got a leg to stand on - but there does seem to be a somewhat mangled attempt at defending her by Shia, so good on him.
--- His Song - The Film Experience is celebrating Moulin Rouge Week, and while I don't really have much to say about that movie, I can appreciate other's enthusiasms for it. (I've got a love-hate thing with it, personally. I like a lot, but sometimes it just gives me a fucking headache.) Anyway my favorite aspect of it is Ewan, so Nat's Top Ten list of Ewan's greatest performances is right up my alley. Ewan forever.--- Monkey Business - It's amazing what a surfeit of anticipation the Rise of the Planet for the Apes movie I've got at this point. I realized this morning that I never even got around to watching the first trailer, and now we've got a second one. Nothing against Jimmy Franco of course; should we lay the blame at Tim Burton's feet? (Of course we should.) I guess if nothing else it's giving Andy Serkis a new opportunity to shine, hidden in the shadows. You don't have to hide Andy in the shadows, ya know, world? Sometimes we like to look at him just plenty.
--- Who You Callin Fairy - I feel guilty at this point eleven years later still referring to Mary Harron as "the director of American Psycho," but that is and remains where I fell in love with her work. (I feel no such qualms about illustrating this only tangentially related bit of news with a picture of Christian Bale in that film, because duh.) She went on to make the terrific The Notorious Bettie Page after that, and did a lot of TV work, but it's hard out there for female directors, as y'all well know. Her most recent flick, the girl's boarding school vampire movie The Moth Diaries (with Scott Speedman playing a teacher!) remains in limbo right now, but according to BD there is good news: she's lining up another flick. It's called Wicked Lovely and it's based on a series of books about a girl that gets caught up in some faery netherworld... that happened to me once. With sexy results!--- And finally, Jared Leto done went and cleaned himself up some for a Huge Boss cologne commercial, so sure, I'll post it. He cleans up well. (via)
