Doesn't that look so much better than anything you've seen advertising-wise for the new Planet of the Apes movie? I swear, why won't studios let me run them, I'd make them so much money.
Anyway whoops forgot to mention earlier this week that I'm off today through Tuesday! I know you guys need a lot of preparation to deal with my absence - medication, over-sized sunglasses, and what some might call excessive foot bathing is involved - so I apologize for springing this on you so suddenly. Send me the medical bills, I promise tomake myself a nest out of them totally care.

Alright smartassery aside I do have something for you - my weekly write-up of the weekend's new movie releases is up at Celebrity Beehive. There's nothing out this weekend that I much want to see (although I could probably be dragged to Rise of the Planet of the Apes for the air-conditioning) - we're just holding our breath for next Friday when Final Destination 5 comes out. HELL YES. Y'all have a nice weekend! I'll be back Wednesday.

--- Space Snaps - Some brave nerd snapped pictures of the footage they showed of Ridley Scott's Prometheus at Comic Con and those have made their way online, for now. You can see them at Dread Central, for now. There's Michael Fassbender to the left staring intently at a tiny thing, and there are equally grainy looks at Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in their costumes and lots of moody Alien looking sets, if you so desire. Gotta say I got a thrill seeing that moody world restaged, even if I don't have a whole lto of faith in Ridley Scott anymore. Great cast, at least.
--- Wiig's Boy Toy - Since I don't watch Glee I haven't had a reason to post any pictures of Glee star Darren Criss - and since I don't watch Glee I've never seen him act, ever - but here he is signing on to co-star in that Kristen Wiig dark comedy called Imogene that we spoke of a few weeks back so hello excuse. He's playing Kristen's love interest! Ha that is awesome. Cradle robber! Also at that same link is word that Annette Bening is playing Wiig's mother in the movie.
--- Havoc Back - Lucas Till, who was a bit block-of-woodish in X-Men Muppet Babies 0but still looked good in his sleeveless sweatshirt, is the latest name added to the cast of Park Chan-wook's English language debut called Stoker. Just the other day Jackie Weaver joined the cast that already included Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode.
--- Emo Bug - ComingSoon has an ultra his-res set of those pictures of Andrew Garfield & Co. in The Amazing Spider-Man that we've been looking at for a few weeks now. But no butt shot! That's the one want the hi-res of, dang it! Although we haven't seen that one there without the EW cover type all over it so that's welcome too.Thursday, 28 July 2011

A couple of months ago a friend turned me on to a new comic called Headache. He knew how to sell me on it - he said it was by a Pushing Daisies writer and shared some ass-kicking DNA with Buffy. Indeed it does - here's how Kickstart's website sells it:"Sarah is an 18-year-old girl who also happens to be the Greek Goddess, Athena. She must embrace her destiny and take on her own family, the gods, in order to stop them from destroying mankind."
It's a terrific read - if you like Joss Whedon this'll very much be your bag - and now I want more. More! You can buy it over here, or via the link above. But my friend wasn't done there - he got to chat with Headache's writer Lisa Joy recently and was kind enough to share said chat with us exclusively.
Like I said up top Joy was a writer on Pushing Daisies, and now she writes and produces Burn Notice. She's married to Jonathan "brother of Christopher" Nolan, who famously wrote the short story Memento was based on (not to mention something called The Dark Knight). Headache is Joy's first foray into comics but we doubt it'll be our last. At least I hope not - I want more Headaches! What’s the one thing you’d tell someone who think comics aren’t cool?Lisa Joy: BAM! POW! SHAZAM! How ya like 'em now f@ck$rs!Growing up, Marvel or DC?Joy: Neither. I'm a late bloomer. Didn't have my comic book awakening until my mid-20s.Joy: The Comedian. No means no, douchebag. In an all-companies crossover, can you assemble your ultimate five-hero team?Joy: Catwoman, Buffy, Jean Grey, She-Hulk, and my gal Sarah Pallas (aka Athena). They'd kick ass and get along like a house on fire. And once a month there'd be peace on earth - bad guys would know better than to mess with super women with synced up cycles.Who’s got the stupidest costume of any hero or villain?Joy: For women, Wonder Woman. Anyone who's ever rocked a bustier knows they're asphyxiating torture devices. And nip slips would be a real problem when fighting crime. For men, Ant-Man - He has a helmet that controls ants. 'Nuf said.Have you ever had a story or character rejected by an editor? What/who was it?Joy: Right now, I'm batting 1,000. But "Headache" was my virgin attempt. So there's plenty of time to fail.Which are the best and worst comicbook movie adaptations?Joy: For best - "Dark Knight" and not just because I'm hitched to the writer. For worst - whaddya take me for - someone who never wants to work in this town again?
What's the project you're most excited about right now?Joy: My USA pilot "Mind Fields" and some very cool stuff in the works for "Headache".What would be your dream project to work on?Joy: Ant-Man. The musical. What’s been your strangest Comic Con/convention experience?Joy: Looking out over a sea of cylons, caped crusaders, and storm troopers and realizing - I'm home!
If you were going to do Cosplay, who would you dress up as?What do you read for fun?Joy: Lots of explosives and ballistics research for "Burn Notice" which probably has me on a government watch list.Who is your favorite writer?Joy: The one I married. What do you do for fun?Joy: Chew Nicorette and kick ass. But I'm almost out of Nicorette.

--- Hey Look - Channing Tatum shaved his head. I have no idea what it's for, if it's for a role or whatever, but I want to rub my hands (or you know, my whatever) all over it, I know that much.--- Three Peeks - DH has descriptions of a few trailers we'll be seeing soon - namely The Dark Knight Rises (which is already leaked online in a crappy pirated version, I watched it this morning but the copy I saw's already gone so search around maybe you can still find it), The Amazing Spider-Man (which'll be shown at ComiCon, and excuse me while I groan at the apparent extensive inclusion of origin story in it - is there anyone on Earth who needs to see him get bitten by the spider at this point?), and the first trailer for John Carter Sans Mars (I think that's what I'm calling it from now on), which is supposedly showing up "with select copies" of Harry Potter this weekend. I better be seeing a "select" fucking copy then.
--- Future Man - There aren't any shots of Colin Farrell or any of the other actors in the Total Recall remake in these pictures from the film's now-shooting set, but there are some amusing looks at the costumes the police extras have to wear. Very TRON meets storm-trooper.--- Latest Final - BD has a rather extensive (that's code for "I only skimmed it") set report from the latest Final Destination movie, which I am officially so excited for I could barf. As I say every time this franchise comes up, I hope I'm seeing new films from this series every other year for the rest of my life.
--- Suicide Laughs - I must've heard about this project earlier but forgotten - Kristen Wiig is teaming up with the filmmakers behind American Splendor to make a dark comedy about a girl who pretends to try to kill herself to win a dude back, a scheme which backfires and gets her sent to live with her estranged mother. This sounds like exactly what she should be doing, so I am there. It's also kind of reminiscent of the darker edges of Bridesmaids - that character was forced by sad circumstances to move home and deal with her mother too. I sense a theme! Kristen Wiig hates her mother.
--- Hero Boobs - This is my sort of literature! io9 gathered up all the examples of Marvel movie superhero men taking off their clothes that they could think of in one hot spot destination post. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, they got them all oh wait they forgot a couple which I will now bitch about, that's right. Just off the top of my head they left off Thomas Jane as The Punisher, they left off Eric Bana in the first Hulk movie (although they do give love to Ed Norton in the last film), and they left off Daniel Cudmore as Colossus in X2..

--- Queen T - When the aliens come and ask us to take them to our leader, we've obviously got to make a beeline straight for Tilda Swinton's house.--- Soul Swallow - There is apparently actual forward momentum of the long-gestating Evil Dead remake. Via Slash we hear that Uruguayan director Federico Alvarez has been hired and there are production people heading to Detroit to work on it. Alvarez apparently got a lot of attention for a short film called Panick Attack! that he released online a couple of years ago, and you can watch it at the link. I haven't seen it. I just pity the poor fool that tries to fill Bruce Campbell's shoes.
--- Batception - DH collected up the three big posters of the day - ones for The Dark Knight Rises, The Thing remake (which has been sitting around gathering dust forever now), and Martin Scorsese's Hugo (sans Chabret).--- Weinstein Buttholes - Dimension Films is still owned by those Weinstein buttholes, isn't it? Ugh. They've snatched up the rights to Livid, the new film from the French director behind the awesomely disturbing fetus-snatcher movie Inside (reuniting him with Inside star Beatrice Dalle), which BD rightly deciphers to mean they'll mess the release all up, because they always do with horror movies.
--- Parrish The Panties - I don't watch Weeds, but I do watch videos of Hunter Parrish standing around in his underpants, even if he is trapped in a hamster ball.--- 8 Times Ice - I am up to page 60 in A Dance With Dragons! I am a slow reader, this book is a thousand pages long, it's gonna be awhile. But I actually lugged the giant thing on the subway with me today, and I normally can't read on the subway, it makes me dizzy. Point: I am willing to risk barf for GRRM. Speaking of him making me queasy, io9's got a couple choice quotes from a new interview (no spoilers, don't worry) where he admits the possibility that the Ice and Fire series could stretch into an 8th book instead of 7 at this point. SIGH. This series will be the death of us all.

Okay okay his name's Josh Pence, we all know that already. He was a male model - shocking I know, judging by these pictures - and he's already got roles in Battleship and The Dark Knight Rises. So perhaps he'll stumble out from under Armie Hammer's long, tall, manly shadow. Although that seems like a desirable place to stay for your live long life, if ya ask me.

A note: Remember how Blogger went down last week, and all the posts I wrote on Thursday disappeared? Well Blogger's finally returned several (though not all of them, yet) of them to my saved pile, but not republished them at the appropriate in-the-past place. I'm too distracted today to figure out when they were originally scheduled, and also all the comments y'all made on them are gone now anyway, so I'm just gonna republish each one right now. So yes, you've seen these stories before, and yes they are nearly a week old. Let's do the time warp, et cetera...
.
I've watched this video of a shirtless Joseph Gordon-Levitt talking about something or other twice already and am about to give it a third go, and all with the sound off. Words words fruitless words, just getting in the way.
.
.
Alright supposedly he's talking about his new movie with Natalie Portman (her again!) out tomorrow called Hesher, which would make sense since he's got the hair and the tattoos from that movie going on in the video.
And according to JJ, where the video's from, this is said:
And according to JJ, where the video's from, this is said:"The irony is that I got in real good shape for shooting Inception, and I shot Inception right after Hesher. So right after I did a whole movie in my underwear, that’s when I finally got in shape, and then I was wearing suits the whole time."
Even more reason to get on Inception's case! Just think of what a movie it might've been if he'd been spinning weightless or bantering with Tom Hardy while naked! Damn you to hell, Christopher Nolan.
If you missed it I capped the hell out of the shots of JGL in his tighty-whities that were in Hesher's most recent trailer right here.

--- Poof There He Is - STYD has got a look at David Tennant in his role of the Vegas-ish magician in the Fright Night remake. Dare I say it's sort of... sexy? In a really weird way? Oh I am ashamed. I just get blinded by chest fur every time. Anyway Colin and Toni aside this movie is gonna be awful, I think.--- Natural Selection - Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli's follow-up film, the alien-themed Area 51, hasn't even come out yet but he's lining up what he'll do next. It is "the tale of friends who discover they are not alone after they become stranded in a ghost town overrun by nature." Whatever the eff that means.
--- How Many Makers - I love this listicle at The Film Experience on the working habits of the many directors we love. Would that nearly every single name on the list work more. I don't care. I want it all!
--- Multi-Fassy-ed - io9 dissects a new TV bite-sized trailer for X-Men Muppet Babies that's got a bunch of new moments in it, including a suspicious one involving Michael Fassbenders. That "s" is meant to be there.--- People Pets - I apparently spaced on posting this news earlier this week so here it is briefly, which doesn't mesh with how epic the news is but whatever, it's been two days and the world's moved on already! Darren Aronofsky and George Clooney are perhaps probably maybe teaming up for a sci-fi movie about a man who wakes up from his cryogenic slumber to find that the human race has been turned into pets for another species. Seems like people are actually tackling harder-edged old-fashioned sci-fi themes these days, doesn't it? I like it.
--- And speaking of Clooney, here's the first clip of him in Alexander Payne's much-waited-for new movie The Descendants. (via) I haven't watched it yet so y'all tell me what's up.

--- Sally Boy - James Franco has cast his Sal Mineo for that biopic he's apparently making - his name's Val Lauren, and he's mostly done TV work so far, although his IMDb bio says he's done a lot of "play originals" with Scott Caan. Mmhmm. I've heard that about Scott. Anyway that's him to the left there and I guess he could look the part, with some effort. If we're looking at later-years Sal, that is.--- Queen of the Knight - Marion Cotillard says that her part in The Dark Knight Rises is very small and non-challenging for a lady who will be tremendously pregnant when it comes time for her to film.
