Well that was quicker than expected - the John Carter Sans Mars trailer is here! Watch it over at Apple. I've watched it just the one time through now in order to grab these caps you'll see below and while I love all the Taylor Kitsch nipplage we're getting here I think I expected a slighter larger scope off the bat? I dunno, I guess they've still got thirty-two years until this thing is out and the big effects probably aren't finished yet and they'll blow us away later on down the road. For now though it introduces us to the story and the world well enough.I'm really just waiting for the second book to get filmed anyway. It's much better!

See 13 more pics after the jump!

--- Hey Look - Channing Tatum shaved his head. I have no idea what it's for, if it's for a role or whatever, but I want to rub my hands (or you know, my whatever) all over it, I know that much.--- Three Peeks - DH has descriptions of a few trailers we'll be seeing soon - namely The Dark Knight Rises (which is already leaked online in a crappy pirated version, I watched it this morning but the copy I saw's already gone so search around maybe you can still find it), The Amazing Spider-Man (which'll be shown at ComiCon, and excuse me while I groan at the apparent extensive inclusion of origin story in it - is there anyone on Earth who needs to see him get bitten by the spider at this point?), and the first trailer for John Carter Sans Mars (I think that's what I'm calling it from now on), which is supposedly showing up "with select copies" of Harry Potter this weekend. I better be seeing a "select" fucking copy then.
--- Future Man - There aren't any shots of Colin Farrell or any of the other actors in the Total Recall remake in these pictures from the film's now-shooting set, but there are some amusing looks at the costumes the police extras have to wear. Very TRON meets storm-trooper.--- Latest Final - BD has a rather extensive (that's code for "I only skimmed it") set report from the latest Final Destination movie, which I am officially so excited for I could barf. As I say every time this franchise comes up, I hope I'm seeing new films from this series every other year for the rest of my life.
--- Suicide Laughs - I must've heard about this project earlier but forgotten - Kristen Wiig is teaming up with the filmmakers behind American Splendor to make a dark comedy about a girl who pretends to try to kill herself to win a dude back, a scheme which backfires and gets her sent to live with her estranged mother. This sounds like exactly what she should be doing, so I am there. It's also kind of reminiscent of the darker edges of Bridesmaids - that character was forced by sad circumstances to move home and deal with her mother too. I sense a theme! Kristen Wiig hates her mother.
--- Hero Boobs - This is my sort of literature! io9 gathered up all the examples of Marvel movie superhero men taking off their clothes that they could think of in one hot spot destination post. Chris Evans as Johnny Storm and Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, they got them all oh wait they forgot a couple which I will now bitch about, that's right. Just off the top of my head they left off Thomas Jane as The Punisher, they left off Eric Bana in the first Hulk movie (although they do give love to Ed Norton in the last film), and they left off Daniel Cudmore as Colossus in X2..

The lucky a-holes of io9 got to visit the post-production oasis for John Carter, aka A Princess of Mars, Pixar's live-action adaptation of the first book
of Edgar Rice Burrough's sci-fi genre building series, and have filed a terrifically detailed report from there, along with a decent amount of conversation with director Andrew Stanton. They've seen the trailer, they've seen Woola and the Tharks and Dejah Thoris doing a slutty shimmy no doubt (harlot). I liked this bit from Stanton:
"Tharks are 9-foot to 10-foot tall green aliens with four arms and tusks. They're all CG, so I went with my Pixar gut and experience, and got actors because of their eyes, their voice, and their acting ability. That's all that's going to be left when all of this is said and done. Those are three things that can translate directly to the animated characters, once they're portrayed there. I got Willem Dafoe and Samantha Morton, and this is what I asked them to do, which was to be on stilts with gray pajamas on, with face cams in 100-degree heat. That's how I sold it. I didn't know how else to get around this issue. I said, "How would you like to wear gray pajamas and be on stilts and wear face cams and stand in 100 degree heat in the desert for six months or three months?" They said, "Where do I sign?""
I have a feeling that Samantha Morton walks around on stilts in gray pajamas when she's in her backyard so this probably wasn't even weird for her. That's why we love her! (And now that I think about it, the same goes for Willem Dafoe as well. What a bunch of weirdos!)
Oh and I should mention this revelation also from the article, since it's been a question I've maintained since the beginning with this project - Taylor Kitsch is not I repeat NOT wearing only a leather thong the whole movie. Cheats! Scroundrels! Thong-stripping hooligans! Boo! BOO! (image via)

If you ask me - and by clicking on a link that brought you to this blog you've waived your rights to dispute the fact that you have indeed asked me - there's been something really gross these past couple of weeks about Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf's need to drag Megan Fox through the mud, hasn't there? I suppose expecting gentlemanly behavior from the purveyors of mindless robot snuff porn was my first mistake, but still you'd think they'd have better shit to talk, like how just massive their dicks are or something. Course I'm one of the only Megan Fox apologists out there, it seems. Ah well. Point being, Big Dick: The Movie is out in theaters as well as that one where Julia Roberts finally dislocates her jaw and begins eating up people left and right, and I'm talking these things over at Celebrity Beehive today, go check it.
I did mention yesterday that I've got today off from work but I didn't mention that that means I won't really be posting between now and Tuesday. Which it does. Mean, I mean. So y'all have a wonderful weekend cramming hot dogs into every hole of your body, in the patriotic sense. Peace!

Well firstly it's probably time to wipe off your damn face. Jeez. Doesn't that possessed-by-demons house have any Baby Wipes laying around? Rip out a page of the damn Necronomicon if you have to then. God. Just clean yourself!
Secondly, it's time to head over to The Film Experience and read this week's "Team Experience," wherein Nat rounds up his TFE contributors, my humble self included, and gets our takes on a couple of topics pertinent to the time. And good clean fun was had by all, the end.

... that's as rich with vivid gigantic imagery as Tarsem's Immortals is promising to be, it's a terrific idea to release your second trailer in the form of a You-Tube-quality low-fi affair, no?
.
.
(via) We went through this with the first trailer too, dammit. Anyway it should look great once we get a higher-quality version. Until then, we'll just have to take our Henry Cavill abs grainy.ETA And while I'm at it, it being just posting trailers, here's the first teaser trailer for Pixar's next, called Brave, which out next Summer. It's about a girl! Imagine that.

--- Return To Oz - Chris Meloni is apparently up for "a major role" in Zach Snyder's Superman movie. We don't know what that role is yet, although if he signs on I'm guessing we'll hear soon. There's speculation he could be Lex Luthor, or perhaps Perry White. I guess Snyder need someone willing to make out with dudes and moon the audience for his Superman movie? That'd make it different than previous incarnations, for sure.--- Toy Boxed - I'm really hoping that Tom Hanks was just talking out of his ass when he mentioned the possibility of a fourth Toy Story movie, because that is a terrible idea.It would be a terrible idea even in the wake of Cars 2 - the Toy Story franchise wrapped up just fine already in the third film. Just make the damned Incredibles sequel already, you fools!
--- Slim Jim - I've been meaning to give some love to Jim Sturgess for a few months now but keep forgetting, so I'll take that attractive new photo of him in his new rom-com-of-sorts with Anne Hathaway (via PopWrap) as the chance to make it up momentarily. I'd never seen him in anything until I watched his odd Gaiman-y London-based horror-flick Heartless--- Rocco To Rebel - Nat's updated the schedule for his "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" series, which is always a treat - upcoming films include some Visconti & Delon, some Aliens, and some Jimmy Dean.
--- Bad Andy - Just in time for tennis season, Joe's posted a ranking of the hotness of the 16 dudes at Wimbledon. Scanning through it the first time this morning I missed that it was ranking the people still playing and got all defensive about the lack of Andy Roddick, but Andy already blew it I guess. Well even if he sucks, I'll take this chance to exploit him at least. (As a sidenote though, I'm getting a little obsessed with Feliciano Lopez these days, so he might start popping up post-wise.)--- New Flesh - Over at Stale Popcorn Glenn's taking a look at three grand ol' flicks, slapping Cronenberg around with Vivien Leigh, mounting Eisenstein with Debbie Harry, to delightful effect.
--- Rescue Rosario - I worry for Rosario Dawson. She should be getting better work. She is a delight, yet somehow she's stuck in third tier parts in Kevin James comedies. The horror. Good news: she's just signed on for a lead role in an indie drama called Fire With Fire. Bad news: from the description at that link it sounds like it's much more the male lead's film, and the male lead is played by Josh Duhamel, which... well he's pretty. And he's playing a fireman here, so that'll be some fantasy fuel. But that only marginally makes up for the probable sidelining of Rosario. Unless there's a scene like this one from Backdraft. Then all bets are off.)--- And finally, Spike Jonze's Scenes From the Suburbs is online! Watch it here (via) - and I recommend expanding it to full-screen. I personally haven't finished watching it yet, though I've only gotten about 10 minutes in so far and will have to finish it tonight.

I didn't dislike the first Cars film as much as most people seem to have disliked the first Cars film, but if they are going to insist on making a sequel to it I can't imagine a less appetizing way to have gone than to have shifted their focus to the character played by Larry the Cable Guy. Small doses, dudes. Very very small doses! I'm taking Glenn's lead on this one because he and I saw pretty eye-to-eye on that first Cars film and he's seen the second one and sounds as if he wants to pluck out his own eyeballs in the wake of it, so I'll be avoiding. You?
Read some more of my thoughts on that flick and the rest
of the movies out this weekend over at Celebrity Beehive.

--- Dino Might - Seems like it's every six months or so that we get some fresh Jurassic Park rumor-mongering - June of 2011 has Spielberg meeting with a writer to discuss possibilities or whatever. Seems to me this shouldn't be so damned hard - put some dinosaurs on an island, have humans visit said island, and go. Instant movie. As long as there's no strapping laser guns to dinosaur heads we're fine. --- Cue The Freaks - The Last Circus, the new horror film from Alex de la Iglesia - see a "Ways Not To Die" ode to his 1995 bizzaro movie The Day of the Beast here - has got a trailer and you can watch it at Twitch Hopefully we'll get to see it here in the US somehow.

--- Easy Being Green - Ryan Reynolds looks pretty darn adorable on the cover of the new Entertainment Weekly, eh? Too bad his movie's being savaged by the critics. Well not really "too bad," I mean I think the pretty boy can take it since he cashed his check awhile ago, no doubt. Probably in between his 485th and 486th sit-up of the day.--- Labor Pains - Kate Winslet's signed on for Jason Reitman's next movie, opposite Josh Brolin - it's called Labor Day and the basic plot description is so generic, so been-there, it makes me anxious:
"Winslet will play a single mother of an awkward and isolated young son who takes in a stranger. He turns out to be an escaped convict and ends up teaches the boy life lessons, while she falls in love with him over the course of Labor Day Weekend."
It has to be more interesting that that sounds, right? Anyone read the book
? Hey if it's got Kate I'll watch it, I just want good things for her, is all.

--- War's The Pitts - STYD has got some shots from the set of World War Z--- Vaguely Barsoomian - The LAT got to talk to John Carter (I'm really missing the "Of Mars" in this movie's title) director Andrew Stanton about how things are going with that film, which we saw the first (nippleless) poster from yesterday. They also got a couple pieces of concept art, which aren't altogether that thrilling but I'm sharing anyway. The top one's reminding me of the rainbow bridge from Thor, kinda?

... he could even be bottomless (which is how John Carter spends a hefty chunk of his time on Mars, famous skimpily-outfitted art be damned - it should be skimpier), but all I know from the teaser poster for John Carter, Pixar's live-action adaptation starring Taylor Kitsch as the titular well-titted hero, is that... he is apparently nipple-less?
Anyway I've been wondering when the hell the we'd be getting something, anything, for this movie, so I shouldn't complain that the first crack in the dam's appeared. The film started filming way back in January of 2010 and is out in March of next year. Next stop: Gimme Tars Tarkas!!!
I've only read the first three books of the John Carter saga and the first's actually my least favorite so far - I really kind of loved the second one, but know there's no way they'll keep its explicit anti-religion vibe alive for a film adaptation. Boo.
