--- Lots of Superman news this week - Henry Cavill sported the Supes curl in public which got all the fan-boys wet (I was too busy staring at the way he fills out those trousers and getting correspondingly wet from that to notice his hair), he talked about his crazy training regime and trying on the super suit for the first time, and Laurence Fishburne got the role of Perry White (great choice).

--- Good to see Natasha Lyonne getting some work, we liked her back in the day, and this is some good work at that (we assume, sight obviously unseen) - she's gotten a gig in that dark comedy of Kristen Wiig's called Imogene that we've been hearing so much about lately.

--- Lost Hitchcock movie The White Shadow has been found! Or at least half of it has. Plus Hitch didn't actually so much direct the movie as he did a bunch of important creative tasks in the making of it. But still! Some cool pics from it can be seen over here.

--- End Of Times - Stake Land, a movie I liked, is out on DVD this week and Twitch caught up with its director Jim Mickle to find out his favorite pieces of apocalyptic fiction and it's a fun list.

--- And speaking of apocalypses, and when aren't we, ow weird is it that the problem that's now holding up George Miller's 4th Mad Max film - the one that supposed to stuff Tom Hardy into those snug leather pants - is there's been too much rain in the area of Australia where they were set to film and it's not apocalyptic enough to shoot in now? Cursed by foliage! George Miller can't catch a break.

--- And in sexy apocalypse news, big bad Benjamin Walker, who I haven't seen in anything yet but am still sort of infatuated with, is playing the archangel Michael in Alex Proyas' movie Paradise Lost, which already has Bradley Cooper playing Lucifer. Ben's got the baby-face and godly bod of every dream archangel.

--- Apparently Margaret - the second film by Kenneth Lonergan after You Can Count On Me that's been sitting on a shelf for what, six years now? - is getting released in September. It supposedly has a brilliant performance from Mark Ruffalo, but got all tangled up in legal crap (plus the studio wanted a shorter cut and Lonergan refused).

--- I'm not really sure I have it in me to watch a show from Ryan Murphy at this point. Nip/Tuck became nigh unwatchable after a couple seasons and y'all know my feelings towards Glee, not to mention the man himself has proven himself completely and totally insufferable in the press. I guess we'll always have Popular. Anyway his next show is a horror show so maybe I can be brought around. It's called American Horror Story (Really? Blah.) and it stars Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton (I know people love her from Friday Night Lights but as I've never gotten around to that show she's left me relatively unimpressed so far) but most awesomely Jessica Lange as the neighbor, presumably spooky. I dunno. BD has a teaser and some pictures. McDermott still looks pretty good (although he'll always be the crappy husband from Steel Magnolias to me).

--- Did anybody else see the trailer for Battleship in theaters this past weekend - two minutes of Taylor Kitsch and Alexander Skarsgard looking hot in naval uniforms amidst some really blatant Transformers ripping-off (Really, Peter Berg? Michael Bay's who you wanna rip off?) - and experience what I did when the title came up, which was an entire audience of people bursting into laughter? I wonder if the folks at Universal did, since news is they're scrapping their plans for several of their long-planned board-game movie adaptations like Clue and Monopoly.

--- Space Snaps - Some brave nerd snapped pictures of the footage they showed of Ridley Scott's Prometheus at Comic Con and those have made their way online, for now. You can see them at Dread Central, for now. There's Michael Fassbender to the left staring intently at a tiny thing, and there are equally grainy looks at Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron and Idris Elba in their costumes and lots of moody Alien looking sets, if you so desire. Gotta say I got a thrill seeing that moody world restaged, even if I don't have a whole lto of faith in Ridley Scott anymore. Great cast, at least.

--- Wiig's Boy Toy - Since I don't watch Glee I haven't had a reason to post any pictures of Glee star Darren Criss - and since I don't watch Glee I've never seen him act, ever - but here he is signing on to co-star in that Kristen Wiig dark comedy called Imogene that we spoke of a few weeks back so hello excuse. He's playing Kristen's love interest! Ha that is awesome. Cradle robber! Also at that same link is word that Annette Bening is playing Wiig's mother in the movie.

--- Havoc Back - Lucas Till, who was a bit block-of-woodish in X-Men Muppet Babies 0but still looked good in his sleeveless sweatshirt, is the latest name added to the cast of Park Chan-wook's English language debut called Stoker. Just the other day Jackie Weaver joined the cast that already included Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode.

--- Emo Bug - ComingSoon has an ultra his-res set of those pictures of Andrew Garfield & Co. in The Amazing Spider-Man that we've been looking at for a few weeks now. But no butt shot! That's the one want the hi-res of, dang it! Although we haven't seen that one there without the EW cover type all over it so that's welcome too.

--- Bane On Bat - Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is filming outside a lot so we're getting lots of pictures from the set, including lots of Tom Hardy in his Bane costume. Weird that we've seen no Anne Hathaway, isn't it? See some here and more here. This one's my favorite:

If you've seen the trailer then you know the movie to expect, and that is exactly the movie you should expect. For a movie about "two men who don't follow the rules!" Warrior follows the rules to a tee. It doesn't much try to add side-dishes of flavor to the stew like David O. Russell's The Fighter did - it's the same straight-forward recipe we've been tasting for decades. I won't spoil the ending for you - I'll leave that to every other sports movie ever made to do.

But! There is a but! (Unfortunately there aren't any butts though. They got in this kind of shape and couldn't find a single shower scene? Really?) Back to the but - Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are two extraordinarily talented young actors and they take this material and they work little wonders with it. The moments where the director allows the stock story to rest for a breath, his actors express effortless power. Hardy for me especially - with him it's as if the quieter and stiller he gets the more you can feel this explosion being muffled up inside, and he underplays every turn of a movie screaming out for screaming out with real grace. Edgerton too - they make a rock-solid (god they're solid) pair, KO'ing cliches left + right! (Spoiler: The cliches win on a technicality.)

But if you're not as cynical as cynical ol' me this is an easy movie to get swept up in - it hits all the beats that drive an audience looking for their "Ooh-rah!" experience to their feet with a cheer. They bring in a Drago-esque Soviet villain for us to hiss at! Hiss! Hiss! The end.

I think I end up doing something akin to this every year - scanning through EW's galleries of celebrities at Comic Con and posting my favorites, that is. This year though, man it seems like I've snatched up a lot. Have I just gotten geekier? Am I reaching Total Geek Capacity??? Oh noes! Meh, mostly it just seems there were more hot guys standing around then usual is all I think this means. Speaking of, look at what I did! Photographer Tim Palen is the man who took that memorable picture of Eli Roth with the giant penis prosthetic that one time, so he knows a little something about eye-catching male exploitation. Well NYMag has just posted a new gallery of pictures by him of Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton and a couple of the other dudes in Warrior, and we like them. You will recall the film's equally beef-tastic poster; this film's having the advertising campaign I once never would've dared to dream it would have the stones for. --- Post Cappy - Supposedly there an an Avengers preview of sorts at the very end, post-credits, of Captain America. That link has a couple spoilers for the movie so click with caution. I usually don't bothering sticking through the credits of these movies for Samuel L. Jackson's annual appearance but I might have to for Joss.

--- Carnage Quartet - The Playlist has a couple of new pictures from Roman Polanski's Carnage with Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet and Hans Landa and that pudgy guy who could never marry any of them not even Hans Landa.

--- Sam Noir - Sam Rockwell is replacing Jeremy Renner in Better Living Through Chemistry. It's about a pill-popping pharmacist who has an affair with Jennifer Garner and plots to kill her husband. Sounds very Body Heat On Vicodin.

--- Getting Gangsta - Slash has got word on what director David Yates is looking at doing now that he's finished with Harry Potter (he directed the last four films) - perhaps an Al Capone bio-pic with Tom Hardy, for one! I like it. The thought of Tom is loose suit pants over boxers and wife-beaters and suspenders fill my head and I like it. Also a possibility is a trilogy based off of Stephen King's The Stand.

--- Slave People - The director of Smart People - that movie that should've just starred Thomas Haden Church and Ellen Page and forsaken all the rest which was bullshit - is who they've picked to direct the 300 sequel? Okay. Slightly random. I guess he almost directed The Ring Two but bailed, which shows wisdom.

--- The Trance Dance - Seems like Danny Boyle is turning to Michael Fassbender's co-star in A Dangerous Method now that Fassy can't be in his new film - no, not Viggo, but Vincent. Cassel that is. Fassy was going to star in Trance opposite James McAvoy and reignite their hot sexual chemistry again, but it wasn't meant to be. Not that I don't want to see McAvoy and Cassel make out. Not that they will. Not that that's stop me from imagining it.

--- Balls Deep Herself, Ari Graynor, has got another role lined up - she's co-starring in For A Good Time, Call... opposite Lauren Miller, actress and more importantly Seth Rogen fiance. It's a "raunchy comedy" co-written by Miller about two broads, said broads being Miller and Graynor, who start a phone sex telephone line. Do those things even exist anymore?

--- White King - The King dies in Snow White, doesn't he? That's how the Evil Queen takes power over the kingdom? Or is he just too weak to upstage her? I can't remember. Anyway Sean Bean has just landed the part of the King in Tarsem's movie version (with Julia Roberts as his Evil Queen) so we can assume he'll die, him being Sean Bean and all.

(via) I totally want to see Warrior - for obvious reasons - but somehow it feels as if it's already been out and we've already seen it, doesn't it? I suppose it's got that air of "seen this movie in a thousand different iterations" about it. Rah rah sports! But this time the above spectacle is in it, not to mention Joel Edgerton, and that makes it worthwhile. It's out on Sept. 10th.

I was really hoping that the first trailer for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy would be up at Apple on top of being on YouTube, where I first watched it this morning, because there are so many lush shots in it that the desire to screen-cap it is rending my insides apart. I mean, director Tomas Alfredson's Let the Right One In was a gorgeous affair so I don't know why I'm surprised. Alas, it is not up at Apple or in HD anywhere, and capping it from YouTube quality's kinda pointless. So for now, just watch it here (via):

The colors! That washed-out 70s feel, uhh, it's giving me happy heart palpitations. It's shot by the same DP as Let the Right One In, Hoyt Van Hoytema; he also shot The Fighter last year. A couple of the shots wouldn't really work as screen-caps anyway, you need to see them in motion with the sound - that shot of the plane coming up behind Gary Oldman! The shot of the blood spreading across the red carpet! Love. Love this trailer. I was looking forward to this movie in a vague sense because of Alfredson and Tom Hardy and the rest of the cast but I just got a hardcore injection of enthusiasm here.

We heard the other day that the role of Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's apparently 3D Great Gatsby movie was up between recent-gratuity-recipient Aussie Joel Edgerton and the Heterosexual Welshman Luke Evans; well Baz went for his home-boy and Joel got the part. He's the flavor of the moment! Him and Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender, ohhhhh my.
