--- Super Grouper - Of all the things in the world for me not to go nuts about and rush to watch it seems insane that the teaser for The Avengers, which is online now, would fall amongst them. Yet I haven't watched it yet. I am losing my mind! Oh well. I lose a little more every day. Have you watched it yet? or perhaps you saw it attached to Captain America? My screening didn't have it, the bastards. Anyway yadda yadda it is there to view if you're so inclined. io9 also took some screencaps, saving me the effort. Obviously I'm just a big fat ball of sloth today. But look at Hemsworth's bicep there - is he even bigger? He looks enormous, good grief.--- Live Longer Than Prosper - It is straight up ridiculous that they haven't even finished a script for a second Star Trek movie, ain't it? There's taking your time to come up with a good idea and then there's just being lazy. LAZY! I know lazy, after all. AICN has a little word on where things are right now and it's not gonna be until at least Summer of 2013 they're guessing. Quinto needs the work, JJ!

Hosted by Jaime at Exodus 8:2 it'll go from August 15th through the 21st! I was just thinking about Kelly the other day and wondering when we'd get more news on what he's up to - he's supposedly working on a "more straight-forward" thriller called Corpus Christi (yeah, The Box was supposed to be more straight-forward) but I haven't heard anything for awhile. Anyway there's loads to cull from his filmography for a post for this blogathon so it should be good stuff!--- Call Him Tarry - Terry Gilliam is working on an adaptation of Paul Auster's book Mr. Vertigo

EW has branded themselves the hub of all things Hunger Games well, haven't they? They love it, as well they should, so they get all these wonderful exclusives. Like these here first glimpses of our menfolk, Gale and Peeta, played by Liam "Brother of Thor" Hemsworth and Josh "Son of lesbians" Hutcherson. You'll also see a couple shots of our heroine Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence of course.
I know I'm just being greedy at this point but I need to have a picture of Isabelle Fuhrman as Clove immediately. That's the most exciting casting decision they made, out of several great casting decisions.

I think I end up doing something akin to this every year - scanning through EW's galleries of celebrities at Comic Con and posting my favorites, that is. This year though, man it seems like I've snatched up a lot. Have I just gotten geekier? Am I reaching Total Geek Capacity??? Oh noes! Meh, mostly it just seems there were more hot guys standing around then usual is all I think this means. Speaking of, look at what I did! I thought it'd been generally decided that The Cabin in the Woods - written by Joss Whedon, starring Chris Hemsworth, about things that go bump at a cabin in the woods - was getting released this Fall finally after sitting on a shelf for a couple years already, but apparently this was an assumption and not a decision. Because AICN has word that it's now being released on April 13th, 2012.
Which okay I am glad there's a date but there have been dates before, and this gives them a lot of time to say "Hey, you know what? How about July 2012 instead?" And then it will just keep going and going and going. The film is supposedly finished, isn't it? Then what are they waiting for? RELEASE IT RIGHT NOW I WANT IT OH MY GOD YOU ARE KILLING ME.

If you're really really fast (and my crafting of this post might even take too long before it disappears) you can click over here and see a really really terrible quality bootleg version of the teaser trailer for Joss Whedon's Avengers movie before it's inevitably taken down by the studio. (This seems to be the same one we mentioned this morning that'll be playing at the end of Captain America's credits.) You get to see Chris Evans boxing, along with glimpses of Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, I think there's a quick second of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, plus Chris Hemsworth as Thor and ScarJo as Black Widow and RDJ as RDJ in a metal suit. Honestly it's hard to tell, the quality is so bad. Still - Thrills! Chills! Spandex!

Finally, our first look at Cabin in the Woods, that long- squirreled-away horror movie written by Joss Whedon and directed by Buffy alum Drew Goddard starring a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth amongst others.
(Topher!!!) Anyway I could link to this picture's original source but they slopped that awful annoying water-mark across it so fuck them, I'll link to Slash which is where I saw it anyway.
It's nothing tremendously exciting - young people standing in a cabin, surprise surprise! - but at least it proves that at the very least a single frame of film was indeed shot. That's more than we've had so far. Still no word exactly on when it'll come out but it's really supposed to be before the end of the year, so Halloween-time would be my guesstimate.

--- An Impressive Phallus - Back in May I posted a couple of pictures of James Franco from his movie about the gay poet Hart Crane, as well as the news that there'd be "a love scene" between him and Michael Shannon in it - well I guess the film screened in LA and word on it (via K212) is even more explicit:"It features graphic sex scenes of "Franco-as-Hart ebulliently performing fellatio on what appears to be an impressive phallus" and "ecstatic as he is topped during anal sex,"
Indeed! James Franco is dedicated. (To being awesome.) There's an interview about the film with James at that second link. The film will supposedly come out next year.
--- Kill Bots - Steven Spielberg's supposedly going to make a movie out of it, but the new book Robopocalypse
hadn't even been seen by the general public yet. Til now - it's out, and io9 says it is awesome. I just finished a book and need something to pick up and this sounds awfully perfect for June reading. Killer robots ho!

--- Mars Needs Men - JJ has a couple of shots of Colin Farrell looking like Colin Farrell (aka hot) in jeans and a t-shirt on the Canadian set of the Total Recall remake, which I guess means that movie's finally shooting. Huh.--- Little Person - Ian McShane is playing the head dwarf in Snow White and the Huntsman (that's the one with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, not the Julia Roberts one). The head dwarf is named Caesar, snooze - make him act all tough and regal and shit while pulling off a Dopey, dammit. That's acting.
--- Speaking of our current revisionist fairy tale craze, Guillermo Del Toro would love to make Maleficent, he says. He even busts out some dorky knowledge about the dragon's wings! God I love him. But the basic point stands that Guillermo Del Toro would love to make a million movies, but there is only one of him. So I won't hold my breath on that.
--- No Strangers 2 Strange - Bryan Bertino's successful 2008 horror film The Strangers has come up in my home a couple times these past weeks so I'm feeling inclined to hear what's up with its sequel; thankfully STYD got some news from Liv Tyler herself. Unfortunately it's not good news:"It's strange. I've read the script. It's been around the whole time, but I don't know how real it is," she said. "Bryan isn't directing it, I don't know what's happened with it. I didn't love the idea personally, but Bryan's such a good writer. He had another project that I was obsessed with and fell I love with and kept trying to convince them to not do 'The Strangers 2' but 'Let's go straight into this thing and it can be 'From the Makers of...' 'cause it was such a great, also simple story but absolutely terrifying. Someone else has that now and they've actually changed it quite a bit. Who knows? Hollywood is so confusing."

--- O Khaleesi - I still haven't gotten around to the Game of Thrones finale - tonight, tonight! - but you should check out Sean's recap of the episode alongside his friend Megan - Sena's read the books, she hasn't - to see a take on the first season from both perspectives. This is a time where it seems fit to invoke that ol' Rosemary's Baby chestnut, "This is no dream - this is really happening!" By this I mean that Joss Whedon's The Avengers is really actually filming right now, which just seems too insane to be true. But it is! And MTV got some info out of Chris Evans behind the scenes of their Movie Awards show the other night. (via)
"It's going great," Evans said of fiilming under Whedon's watchful eye. "It's not an easy task for Joss to incorporate all these characters, and not only is he doing a fantastic job, but everyone is getting along so well. In my experience, when you do a movie with a lot of big stars, it feels like you work and then you go [home]," he explained. "There's a lot of camaraderie. We hang out together, we spend time together."... "We're stuck in Albuquerque, no one is from there, no one knows what to do, so when we're done with work if we have a weekend, we all go get dinner, grab a drink, go to someone's house," he said. "It actually feels like a team," he added, with a knowing smile.... we've had a couple [group] scenes," Evans revealed. "I've obviously been excited about being Captain America, but . . . when we did 'Captain America,' you're the only superhero on set. [With] 'The Avengers,' there were a couple days where I came to set and you see Hemsworth — who is a superhero — and . . . you see Downey with the ['Iron Man'] suit, and it's the first time I geeked out a bit."
So we know that somewhere in Albuquerque Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner are hanging out together getting drunk, and yet we all haven't stampeded the town? We're slipping.

Do I have to sneak off to Australia, hide in the bushes, and take these pictures myself? (Seriously, I am entirely willing to do that.) --- The Lovers, The Dreamers - You can see a photograph of the poster for The Greatest Muppet Movie Made over at AICN, along with word that one of the original songs written for the film is already making grown men burst into tears. Hooray! November 23rd can't get here soon enough.--- Sob Story - Hooray for praise of Barbara Hershey's performance in Beaches at The Film Experience! Her work really was overshadowed by her lip injections at the time; cornball lady-hysteria aside, she's wonderful in the movie. It makes me short of breath just thinking about the scene where she collapses for the first time, so well does she sell the sickness.
--- The Kings Layer - I haven't watched last night's Game of Thrones yet but I hear there was lots of gratuitousness right up my alley to behold so I'm looking forward to it. For now, we can read this interview from this past Friday at PopWrap with the Kingslayer himself, Nicolaj Coster-Waldau.
--- I See A Samuel - Over at Stale Popcorn, Glenn takes a look at some movie called Road Train, and by "takes a look at" I means posts several pictures of its star Xavier Samuel, last seen by me in 2010's best horror movie The Loved Ones, looking mighty fine.--- Coop On Chris - Over at Low Resolution, Joe lists the eventual blockbusters still coming out this Summer in order of preference. Special shout-out to the never-stops-being-completely-hysterical shot of Dominic Cooper checking out Chris Evans' pecs in the Captain America trailer is given. Word.
--- Wood Man - It went through about thirty different actors hands, but Snow White and the Huntsman finally has its Huntsman - Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth will star opposite Kristen Stewart as SW and Charlize Theron as the Wicked Queen. I've avoided the Twilight movies like the plague so I don't necessarily dislike Kristen Stewart, but I'm still hoping with those stars attached that Hemsworth and Theron toss her out a window and end the film in each other's arms. Because that'd be HOT.
--- A New Riding - I guess if anybody could maybe make a coherent script for a remake of the terrific British TV trilogy Red Riding, I guess it could be the guy who wrote Zodiac, with its thousand characters and dangling strands. I say they rehire Andrew Garfield for it! And then make him walk around in his little underpants again.--- Just Josh - Josh Duhamel's signed on for a couple of movies, and this will be the last time you'll hear me mention either of them until the pictures of him with his clothes off in said movies arrive.
--- More Monsters - The original director Gareth Edwards will only produce, he's busy trying to make that Godzilla movie, but a sequel to last year's cost-nothing success Monsters is gonna get made. One of the other producers says they'll be making "much more of a straight genre picture" and "upping the ante," so basically they're planning on canceling out everything that made the first film unique. Mkay.
--- Canadian Idol - Ryan Gosling is becoming a director. I guess we should've seen this coming. He's set to star in and direct a remake of Taylor Hackford's 1980 film The Idolmaker, about the rock n' roll promoter Bob Marcucci, who discovered Frankie Avalon.
--- Pretty Vacuum - Kellan Lutz, Shiloh Fernandez, and Amber Heard are going to star in a movie together. I mean, I'm not sure if it'll be the sheer force of prettiness or the vacuum of the absence of acting skills that'll destroy the world when this happens, but it'll be one of those two. Perhaps the union?--- Two Tom Cats - Joel Edgerton - see his recent gratuitous post here - and Luke Evans, who is totally 100% straight or something, are both up for the role Ben Affleck almost took, Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby.
--- And finally, have you seen the original ending to Alexander Payne's Election yet? (via Slash) It's terrible. Terrible! It might be the best example I've ever seen of test audiences working out for the best, because the ending they actually came up with for the finished film is about twenty-thousand times better than this.
